hi,
I appreciate your views about India. It is really a beautyful country.
If we go into History, we found only two cultures..one is Indian and the other is Greek. We have the oldest culture and tradition and we proud of it.
I am from Delhi and working as a journalist. I am trying to form a group for practice of spoken English. I realise that we cannnt practice here our spoken English, We can find only language partners..Pl tell me where are you from and what do you do.
Yours
Neil

hi Neilaabh, you are quite right, India and Greek have a very old culture but they are not the only oldest culturs in the world`s history. Countries like China or Persian are not younger in culture as Greek or India.
Please do not missunderstand me it's not a claim.
have noticed you are trying to form a group to practice spoken english, will be glad to be a part of this group. please inform your chat address will get in contact.

with best of wishes

Hey Virginia,
I guess your question on 'illnesses' didn't get answered, perhaps got lost.
To answer that, yes...we do have illnesses that are indigenous to tropical countries. So when we have visitors from Europe and the US, they visit their hospitals and get the necessary vaccines and preventions before they travel. And we have quite a few visitors from your part of the world.
Because it's an extremely warm country most of our illness are bacterial, while your part of the world would have more viral infections. So, while viral colds and flu do not feature majorly here, people travelling for the first time do have upset stomachs.
Ofcourse, precaution is important and if you stick to bottled water and do not eat fruit off the shelf, without washing it first, and get tempted to eat anything and everything from the local street vendors, it's risky.

Please ask if there's more on your mind. Glad to answer your queries.

We do not have an official religion as we are a secular and democratic country. There is freedom to practice any religion, adopted or natural.
However, if you meant predominant religion, Hindus constiture the majority, almost half the population is Hindus.

It might interest you to know that we have a large number of Christians too, from various sects, including Orthodox Christians.

Re:Re:Re:Re:!!! ^_^
I have also heard of a strange social system.People are divided into categories and it's "forbidden" to get close to people from another category. Is it true?We call these categories "kastes",I think...

PS Thanx a lot for your answers, they really helped me understand!! ^_^

Hello Neilaabh!

I've just recently read the book "City of Joy" and was so very touched by the spirit of India. I'd love to help you with your English if you'd like and in exchange you can tell me all about your wonderful country. I'm am a 38 yr old Canadian professional dog trainer who rescues lots of different animals and I love different cultures mostly African, Indian, and Asian. One day I hope to visit these countries. In the meantime I want to learn as much about these exotic places as possible.
