Unlike a lot of teachers of dead languages, I like to emphasize conversation and active use. Besides being much more fun than just reading texts, all evidence points to conversation being the best way to learn a language. Generally speaking, I like to spend 1/3 of the class in conversation, 1/3 in introducing and practicing grammar, and 1/3 in reading texts. No matter how much we're covering in a day--and expect to do a lot of work!--the mood is always fun. Many students have told me they look forward to my class after a long day at work or their usual school, and I know I always have a great time. So if you want actually want to learn a dead a language and have fun doing it, send me a message! |

Study of a language should not be approached as a difficult or tedious task. Learning Russian will take much time and effort, but it can be a fun experience if both the teacher and the learner are able to go beyond the idea that the language is "foreign." I start out by telling my students that Russian is neither more nor less difficult to learn than any other language. Believe it or not, even grammar is fun! I try to help my students feel confident in their learning abilities. For those who wish to go beyond the beginning level, I can help to arrange for study in Russia with experienced native instructors. |
