Although I know Cantonese will be helpful in my career as a cinematograph er in Vancouver, my original purpose for learning Cantonese has more to do with going through the process of meeting my girlfriend's parents in Macau. Since their native language is Cantonese, and I've been told their English is very limited, being able to speak at least very basic Cantonese can go a great distance in getting to know them and leaving a good first impression.
As per my career, at least 4 weddings I've shot last season have been for Cantonese-spe aking couples. Of course since they live in Vancouver, there is no problem communicating directly with the bride and groom, but editing speeches and what-not becomes increasingly difficult for someone who doesn't know the language. Fortunately there are Cantonese speakers who I work with, but going to them every time I there's something I can't understand can be troublesome.
As you probably know by now, I do have contact with many Cantonese speakers, which I believe will help me grow with this language. However, with that in mind, I do understand foundation is absolutely necessary in the pursuit of any language. So I am really looking for a teacher who can give me just that --foundations . I am capable of meeting weekly for however long it takes per session. I know only so much can be done in the classroom, so I am hoping my teacher / tutor can provide me with some possible exercises to help me practice whatever needs to be practiced. I will study hard if given the tools. =)

-I am learning Mandarin Chinese because I plan to move to China in the future.
-My spoken level is probably hsk 4 and my reading and writing is probably 1 or 2
-I would like to learn proper grammar and also improve vocabulary. I am an electrician and I would really like to learn the words of my trade and the names of tools and building supplies. I would also like to learn words related to driving and cars.
