I am a college instructor interested in learning Chinese (Mandarin) so that I can spend my next sabbatical in China. I have studied at the college level for one year, and now I would like to continue my study with individual instruction. I especially need help with pronounciatio n and listening comprehension . I can spend one or more hours each week in actual instruction and additional time in self-study. I would like an instructor who is patient but who will push me to do well. I'm definitely not afraid of hard work. Thanks.

Greetings! I am an absolute beginner in the Hawai'ian language. I am determined (that's my positive self reinforecemen t mantra) to relocate and teachin the State of Hawai'i. In my search, I found that there are areas in rural Hawai'i where there is a shortage of teachers. Since I also want to teach where I am needed. I have a deep and abiding respect for all native cultures, and if given the opportunity to do the above, I plan to make that community my home. I would need to make an immersion into this culture, and studying the language seems like a good place to begin. I would prefer someone who is already living there, so that there can be an exchange of other avenues of the Hawai'ian culture, I can study, but not limited to just that ideal person. I would like to dedicate at least an hour a week on these lessons. I would like to begin with the history of the language and conversationa l in the beginning.
