I am an unemployed non-smoking artist with a disability.
I was hoping to study Hungarian through the Ottawa Catholic School Board under their International Languages Program which you can see on their website. Hungarian is listed on their website. Even if Hungarian appears in the classes offered, I was told on the phone that it is not being given for School Year 2010-2011 due to lack of registrations in Fall of 2009.
I am learning Hungarian because I like it very much. I was a member of Tulipán Hungarian Dancers of Ottawa, but adult dance group fell apart in 2006.
I am not looking for a career advancement, I just love the Hungarian folklore, especially Hungarian folk dancing, arts, music, etc.
Even if I have been exposed to Hungarian culture for more than 10 years, sadly my proficiency level is still at beginner although I am being told by many native speakers that my pronunciation is very good as I have the phonetics memorized very well.
I have tried with method called Assimil but due to not having someone to practice with I am very much behind. Learning on my own is slow because I can only take so much of being alone with this task. I find it overwhelming to learn alone and not have a good framing of discipline like I would get if I was taught Hungarian in a school program.
The areas in which I feel I need particular improvement is understanding grammar and being able to have conversation, etc.
I look for people to volunteer their time to help me as much they can as I am wanting to dedicate myself to my Hungarian lessons everyday to become as fluent as native Hungarian speakers.
The qualities I am looking for in my lessons and in my teacher is patience and generosity of sharing this special skill.

I would actually like the lessons for my children aged 4 and 5. Their father is from the Philippines but left when he was only 7. He can speak fluently but only when spoken to so he has a very difficult time speaking/teac hing it to the children. I personally think it is very important for them to have that piece from their Filipino culture. I have a program I use to try to learn and teach them basic things. We have worked on colors animals and some greetings though I know my pronunciation is not what it should be for proper learning. I would like them to learn so they have the ability to converse and understand their Filipino relatives.
