I'd like to become conversationa lly proficient in my ancestral tongue. I have tried learning German since high school on my own and have not really made progress. I would have to classify myself as a beginner. I'd like to become fluent in German, however, the cost of lessons has been a stopping point. I'm hoping that my lessons will be easy to understand and have a teacher who has patience for students who don't retain much of what they learn. As for how long I am willing to devote to the study of German, that would depend on whether the teacher could accommodate a student who works shift work and seldom has the same two days off all the time.
