Description |
I have been studying Japanese for the past 7 years, but it is constantly on and off. For the past year, I have taken Japanese 101 & 102 up in Boulder and I have loved every second of it! I love being in a structured plan instead of an individual study plan. Sadly, I am changing schools where they do not offer Japanese, so I want to find a tutor so I can continue my studies. I believe I am a little better than a beginner, but I would love to review to make sure I am proficient. I need help with listening and speaking japanese. I feel that I write it very well, but I cannot always hear it and it's hard for me to create sentences verbally. I would love to spend 2 or 3 hours a week in person studying japanese with my tutor. I would like a tutor who always has a plan with their lesson and doesn't just come to see what will happen. I want to work on my speaking skills, but not all the time, as I would like to also be able to create sentences and learn kanji. So, learning sentence structure would be great! I want my tutor to be patient and professional. Any sort of handout or lesson/homewo rk would be great as well.

Description |
I am studying Japanese because I have a profound love for Japan and Japanese culture. I started studying Japanese in January of 2006 through an online program through the University of Alabama. Ever since, I have been doing the best I can to pursue every opportunity to continue learning this language. Although I have been studying Japanese for four years, I struggle with confidence in my language skills. I have a tendency to continue to 'think in English' instead of 'in Japanese.' This severely handicaps my speaking skills. I have a fair grasp on grammar when I write in Japanese; however, I do have difficulty recalling kanji. My goal is to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at either the N3 or N4 level. While I wish I could spend many hours a week studying with a tutor, I am on a budget and would probably be limited to 1-2 hours a week.
My ideal tutor would be someone who is very understanding , patient, and kind; as I mentioned above, I am very insecure and embarrassed about my inability to apply my knowledge to conversationa l and, in the case of recalling kanji, written situations. I need someone who can see my potential and bring it into fruition. During our lessons, I need to learn about to think in Japanese--not translate my thoughts into Japanese. I need someone to teach me to retain vocabulary and kanji. I also am looking for someone to coach me for the JLPT. But, most importantly, I need someone who will help me develop the confidence I need to speak Japanese without being ashamed of myself.

Description |
I am looking to learn Japanese from a native speaker. I lived there when I was younger, and learned a little bit. I want to remember what I have since forgotten, and then move forward with my studies.
