My name is Thomas Sybilrud,
I am currently a citizen of the US, but am thinking of moving back to Iasi. I lived there for 10 months last year (2007) with my girlfriend. She grew up in Iasi and then came to the US for high school as an exchange student and continued to go to University here in the states, where we met.
Upon living in Iasi, I did not take formal courses for the language, thus not learning as much as I could have. I figure I could understand about 40 - 50% when I was living there, yet I can probably only speack 10 - 20%. I have a decent vocabulary (which makes it easier for me to understand than speak) but I have trouble putting the words together. We left Romania at the end of November 2007.
My girlfriend and I have been renovating an apartment building in the Gara district of Iasi and will be continuing our real estate development. I am trying to decide if it is a good idea for me to go back to Iasi. I am very serious about learning the language.
Currently I would like to be able to speak and understand the language (I understand people in Bucharest a lot better than the people of the Moldovian region) I have been told it is a hard dialect to learn.
Reading and writting is not a huge issue right now, but eventually it would be nice to learn. But for now I would just like to learn how to speak and understand.
I have taken some classes for Spanish (about 10 years ago) so I get a little bit of how the grammer should be since they are similar languages. But I still have trouble.
I f I am going to come back to Romania it will be around mid-July 2008.

Beginner. I am learning because I am on a spiritual journey and these two languages are going to be important to my ability to commuicate. I want to be able to speak and understand both French and Romanian well enough to interact with people from these countries. I want to work on it until I am good at it. I am looking for a teacher who can help me get it as quickly as possible but who is willing to work as long as it takes.

I would also like to learn many other languages but am starting with Romanian. I've taken one year of Frenc but I need 2 years of foreign language as a college requirement. I am looking for lessons in Romanian in the Puget Sound region but if there are none available I am also looking for courses in Russian.

Hello, I am a beginner in Romanian and would like to learn extensively more on the language. The reason I want to learn this language is because I have a friend who lives in Romania and would like to better understand and have fluenct conversations with her. I need improvement in grammar and conversationa l speach. I would like to dedicate as much time as you have to offer. Have an open free schedule and willing to work with yours.
