I have been looking into Cantonese myself and have got some of the basic's, But i would still prefer to start at beginner just incase i missed something.
I want to learn it not only for the self satisfaction that comes from learning new things but my girlfriend and her family are all chinese and cantonese speakers and would be great for me to communicate with her family.

Hi - I would like to learn cantonese because my girlfriend is Chinese and I would like to make the effort to learn a language she and her family uses, albeit she speaks perfect English! I have never learnt Cantonese before and I realise that it is a difficult language to learn, but it would mean a lot to me to reach at least an intermediate level. I am dedicated to learning and would be able to allocate 6-8 hours (including homework) a week to this. Ideally I would like to learn how to speak and understand Cantonese, I dont know really about writing, grammar etc, but whatever you think is necessary for me to get a good understanding . I am prepared to travel.
