It is important to me that I know my mother toungue: Malayalam. I already know some Malayalam and can read and write as well as speak and understand a little bit. I need particular improvement in speaking and understanding Malayalam and learning to speak like a local in Kerala. I also feel my grammar and vocabulary needs to improve. I am currently staying in Kerala and plan to be here until November 2014. When people speak in Malayalam I find it difficult to catch everything they are saying.. I probably catch 20% and guess the rest. Even though I am in Kerala I am not living in a Malayalam speaking environment so my Malayalam is improving slowly only. I am hoping to learn as quickly as possible so I am willing to dedicate a few hours a week. I am looking for a teacher who is able to assess my current ability in speaking and understanding and help me improve quickly until I become fluent in the language. It would also be useful if the teacher can provide resources, audio as well as written, for lessons and homework. But the main priority for me now is improving my conversationa l skills.

Hello, my name is Ronnie and I live in London but I am an Irishman. I have been with my Ethiopian wife for five years now and have been to Ethiopia four times to date . I have just come back from Ethiopia two weeks ago and again am a bit annoyed with myself that I haven't made an effort to learn at least the basics so I could interact more. I'm not really the type to sit in a class so I would like to find someone who is patient to teach me basic Amharic.As my wife is from dire dawa I think that when she see's I am trying that she will help as well.I think I would like to spend about four hours per week learning but I am happy to discuss this with teacher.So basically I just want to learn the basics and hopefully progress to being a reasonably confident speaker.Looki ng foreword to responses,tha nk you.
