I am a complete beginner. I expect to spend some time each year in Tamil Nadu beginning in 2006 volunteering with AIDS organizations and would like to have a little knowledge of the language before I arrive.
I 2005, I am quite busy but could attend a lesson for an hour or two, once or twice a week. I do not expect immediate proficiency, just acquaintence with the alphabet and beginning conversation.
I am looking for a trained teacher with experience teaching students for whom Tamil is not their first language.

I am a beginner in Tamil and basically want to have some basic conversationa l skills and improve my comprehension skills. I've grown up listening to Tamil around me, so I can follow most general conversations , but I cannot put sentences together and moreover, am too embarrased to try because of my American accent. I've always wanted to learn Tamil because most people in my family speak it, however, I'm more motivated to learn it now because I'm recently engaged and marrying into a Tamilian family. I will be in Bangalore until the first week of February and would like to dedicate 4-6 hours a week to Tamil study. I'm looking for a teacher who will understand me and help me to become comfortable with conversation spoken Tamil.

The time frame i want to will approx 30days and an average of 1 to 2 hours per day.
