I am a 4th year Business student and desire to learn essential and basic Mandarin as that will be a critical skill and language in the near future. To conduct international business as well as build good relations, I believe that being fluent in several languages will be a good asset to have. I am moderately oral in Cantonese and have a basic grasp of Vietnamese - I wish to improve my oral skills for those languages as well.
Conv ersational Mandarin is my goal. I will dedicated 2-3 hours a week to learn as I have a full-time job and enrolled in part-time school.
Ch aracteristics I look for are: passion for teaching, patient, enjoy working with students, and makes learning fun and effective.

Q: Why you are learning your foreign language (e.g., career advancement, etc.).
A: These lessons are for my son, Bruce, who is six years old and in first grade.
Q: Your proficiency level (e.g., beginner, etc.).
A: Bruce's proficiency level is high. As his mother, I have been speaking mandarin with him since he was born, however, his English is better than his mandarin and I want to make sure that his mandarin does not fall behind.
Q; The areas in which you feel you need particular improvement (e.g., grammar, conversation, etc.), if any.
A: All area need improvement and practice, especially conversationa l mandarin.
Q: How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessons.
A: Two hours per week or more.
Q: What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher.
A: Since my son is young, I am looking for a teacher who is kind, yet firm. Someone with a good personality is a big plus. My son is very outgoing and not shy. He is a fast learner and very curious. He loves stories and has a big imagination.

I work with Chinese people and have learned to communicate without words very efficiently. There are times though when words would be very helpful. I am the only caucasion person working at my company and I wish to communicate more freely with my fellow staff yet some speak little English. I also would like my two daughters to learn to speak a second langauge and Chinese is my number one choice for them. I thought it would be nice for the three of us to learn together.(My children are 10 & 11 yrs old) They are very intelligent, well behaved and fast learners.
I am looking for weekend lessons , daytime perhaps two hours at a time. Sat & Sun weekly would be good and perhaps one Wed night monthly for extras. My work and their school schedule permit no more.
I would like a teacher who produces results in the learning process. Someone who cares that we learn the language properly and respectfully.
