I have some knowledge of Finnish and can create basic sentences and understand rather more. I have basic understanding of grammar and can use a number of cases. I would like to learn to 'communicate' rather than concentrating on grammar - I would like to learn to communicate first and then back up my basic knowledge and extend with relevant grammar. I can speak reasonable French and German so am not a novice at learning languages.

I have currently been studying Finnish for around three years now. I have also spent about six months in total in Finland. Having only studied the language for a few years, I think all aspects of my language skills are lacking. Of course, I am able to learn vocabulary on my own but what is particularly difficult is learning the correct grammar and learning the spoken version of things to accompany the formal written version that I have learned. I have studied grammar fairly intensively but it is still quite hard.
