I am looking gain some proficency in Swahili. I am a complete beginner, as I have never seen or heard the language before. I want to learn this language to advancy my career in international relations. I hope to spend a couple hours a week in lessons, depending on what seems appropriate. I am moving to Calgary starting in September and I would like to find a teacher or school which teaches Swahili. I am only just beginning but will be traveling to East Africa in the Summer of 2005 and would like to have basic proficiency. I will be studying as a graduate student but would still ike to dedicate abour 4 hours of teaching per week. i would really appreciate any help in locating a way for me to learn the language.

I would like to learn Swahili so I can speak it when I move to Africa.
I do not yet know any Swahili but have started to teach myself. However, I am not sure if I have the pronunciation or the structure of my sentences right.
I would love to meet someone who has either a similar interest in learning Swahili or would be able to tutor me in the language.
