I studied mandarin in Taiwan for about 12 monthe in the 1980s'.
I wish to again study the language for social reasons.
I am weak on conversation and grammer.I learn't some basic chinese characters.
I would like to dedicate about 4-5 hours per week in a class.
Parti cular qualities I am looking for in a teacher is an understanding of conversion of english grammer to chinese grammer.

I'm a beginner at all the languages I want to learn. There is no practical purpose for my desire to learn, really; I simply want to. However, I do see practical benefits like being able to converse with people around the world, and being able to read foreign texts in the original language. I suppose you can't truly judge Sartre's or Voltaire's or Rilke's or Homer's works if all you've read are the English translations.
