I am a second year university student studying marketing and international business. For my degree i am required do know a foreign language and am most interested in learning Sinhalese. I am Sri Lankan by birth and therefore can understand quite well however am unable to speak and therefore i would like to learn at an beginners level. My proficiency level is beginner at best, as I have never taken classes to learn Sinhalese before.
I am looking to learn Sinhalese because I am applying for a scholarship to work in Sri Lanka for 9 months and need to be able to communicate with the local people and read documents written in Sinhalese.
B ecause I have no former experience with learning the Sinhalese language, I am looking to start with the basics.
I am willing to dedicate as much time as necessary to learning the language because it is essential that I be able to communicate with Sri Lankans once I am there.
The quality I am most looking for in a teacher is patience as I have never attempted to learn the language before.
