Description |
I am a beginner in both Kurdish and Turkish. I am actively studying Kurdish on my own but have a false start in Turkish.
I have chosen to learn Kurmanji because it is the language of my boyfriend and his family. I have strong beliefs about the link between language and culture, and I prefer to communicate with them in their mother tongue. As I hope to become a part of their family, it will be my language, too, and I would like it to be the language spoken in our home with the new family we start. My children will be Kurdish, and I want to be able to teach them and speak it with them. My ultimate goal will be to speak fluently at an upper advanced level. In the short term, I really need to work on basic conversation skills, especially regarding family and culture. I will also need some help with writing. I want to put a lot of time into my language lessons, possibly 4-10 hours a week (perhaps on rotation) for at least the next couple of months (come September I'll be working on my practicum for teaching English) before lessening the length of lessons. What I'm looking for in my lessons is a communicative approach that focusses on meaning and developing fluency. I have a tendency to be the sort of learner who's bent on accuracy at the cost of communication .
I have already found a Turkish teacher through the site. Thank you.
