Hi, I'm 30 years old, live in sacramento and was born in Vietnam but cannot speak the language. I vaguely understand bits and pieces. I have tried taking a course at Sac City College but was embarrassed because the teacher kept making funny of me openly. My parents tried to teach me but they too make fun of me. The vietnamese church won't accept adults in their classes and I can't tell if I am pronouncing the words right on the CDs I purchased online. I'm looking for someone who has patience and won't make fun of the fact that I have a hard time pronouncing words even though it is my native language.

I am a beginner/inte rmediate Vietnamese student looking to spend about three hours a week at least studying with a tutor/teacher one-on-one. I have recently moved to Saigon to teach English and would like to learn Vietnamese so I can get around the city, build relationships , and more easily communicate on every level. I have already been studying the language for several months however I would like to focus primarily on grammar and conversation because I find these areas of the language difficult. My goal is relative fluency in one year.
