I haven't started yet on my journey to learn sinhala, so I need to start from zero......I speak, read and write english, because I have been living in Australia for a few years. So even if my native language is italian, I can have an english speaking teacher.
I am a volunteer, I share Bible's messagge with sri-lankan people, but at the moment I am not able to have conversation with them, I accompany friends of mine that are sri-lankan, but I have a desire to speak the language myself in order to have conversation with people...
I have no idea of how much time I should dedicate to learnig this language for a good outcome. So probably the best thing is to start and see how I'm doing. I am willing to dedicate as much as necessary.
I 'd love to learn to speak, and communicate with people, (knowing that writing and reading in sinhala are different than speaking). But if I could learn some grammar to help me read as well as speak I would not mind at all. Thank you, hopefully it won't cost me a fortune, but i have a strong desire to give it a good go!!!!

I don't know the sinhalese language at all, but am a fast learner. I would like to learn this language because I'll be marrying into a sri lankan family, and I want to surprise my boyfriend. I need to learn how to speak (conversation ) the language. Time is not a problem, I'll dedicate as much time as it takes, and as I said, I'm a quick learner.
All I need from my teacher is to know the sinhalese language fluently.

I have never studied Sinhalese before, so I am definitely a beginner! I am keen to learn it quickly and study hard because I am of Sinhalese decent and want to focus my doctoral research on Sri Lanka. This would involve several trips to the country to conduct interviews and collect data, so ideally I would like to be proficient at speaking the language.
I may leave for Sri Lanka between April and May, so I would need to learn how to communicate with people as a student doing fieldwork (ask them questions, be polite in different situations, continue a conversation, talk about why I am asking questions, etc.) by then. I intend to continue my lessons upon returning and inbetween fieldwork trips so that I may improve my language skills.
Th e time dedicated to my language lessons depends on what the teacher believes I should have to meet my needs. I am taking a break from university for this term (until January 1), so I am flexible until then and am willing to devote most of my time to learning the language.
Qualities I am looking for: dedication and patience on the teacher's part, structure to the lessons (I need to start at the very beginning, which will be a challenge but I am willing to do the work), conversationa l lessons, and a reasonable fee (as I am a student, I am on a limited budget).

I am a beginner, knowing only very few sinhalese words but am very intrested to learn. My boyfriend and his family are from columbo and speek alot of sinhalese, i would like to join in there conversations and understand the language.
I think 2-3 days a week couple of hours each time would be good.
I would like a teacher with alot of patients, because if is a hard language to learn and it might take a while. Also remembering that i am probably less than a beginner.
