I would like my two daughters to learn Chinese. They are ages 7 and 11. I would like to see them fluent in speaking, reading, and writing within the next 5 years or so. They are very well disciplined.
There are no Chinese speakers in the family, but we could start attending the Chinese 'Socials' in Plano.

I am a beginner. I have not learned any Chinese. My good friend and I are interested in taking a Chinese course at the University of Minnesota but there is a time conflict. We really want to learn another language together. We both would have practical use for the language because we are in contact with a lot of Chinese speakers. We are willing to dedicate about 6 to 8 hours of class time per week. We are looking for a very good teacher with practical and useful learning tools or exercises we can use outside of the classroom. We are looking for a teacher with very good communication in both English and Chinese and finds joy in teaching and is able to teach effectively. A teacher that has a lot of experience teaching.

I am a beginner--hav ing been learning from books and CD's for about 4 months. I wish and need to develop conversationa l abilities.
Mostly my efforts are for personal interest. In business one of my main clients is from mainland China--but works and lives in Calgary and is fluent in English. The family involved in the company however lives in China and is not Eng;ish speaking. I hope to be able to travel to China in the fall of 2006 to both meet and communicate with some of these people as well as to visit the country generally.
I hope to meet with a tutor who can teach and help me engage in conversationa l Chinese on a broad range of everyday matters, including news and current affairs. I am willing to dedicate 2-4 hours per week to this end, possibly more.+
