I travel to mainland China every 2 to 4 weeks, and stay for up to 4 weeks at a time. Although I have been visiting China since 2003, I am a beginner, and am embarrassed that I do not know more Mandarin. My first request would be to gain some confidence in conversation, and to understand and practise the 4 tones.
I would like some intensive 1 to 1 training, with perhaps a number of sessions just before and just after each of my business trips. I am willing to be guided by the tutor as to the exact amount of time for each session (i.e. is 2 hours too long, or 1 hour too short).
I am looking for a native Mandarin speaker, who is patient but also quite demanding in achieving the correct pronunciation . I am educated to Masters level, so would also be happy to support my studies with wider research into Chinese culture, if the tutor could also provide some interesting topics.
I am viewing this as a 1 year activity, with perhaps 6-8 hrs per month of tutor contact time, but am happy to understand if this is the right level. I may be able to supplement this with additional lessons in China (with a different teacher).
