I took 2 series of classes but because I was working a lot and still finishing University I didn't have much time to dedicate to memorizing and learning, as a result I keep forgeting my vocabulary (and particularly characters!).
I'm learning Mandarin because I think it will be very useful some day.
I need to improve in every area. I wanted to learn mostly to speak, but now I feel that learning to read will also help me practice more. I bought a book, but it is not very practical and useful (yet).
I want to spend at least one hour a week in class (maybe more depending how it goes and how much I an handly without going brain dead). I'll try to spend a few additional hours practicing and learning on my own.
I want a very interactive teaching. Previously the training material was great, but when the teacher asked for answers from the class, I didn't have time to think about the answer that somebody answered already. I also had limited time to practice talking, and the teacher who wanted not to discourage us from wrong pronounciatio n, often failed to let us know how to improve. So ideally, a very small group, or even private classes would be what I am looking for, so that I can really practice and get feedback on my performance, weaknesses and key points to improve.

I am Chinese. I speak fluent Mandarin, Chinese. I speak the language everyday. But I never learned to read or write. I came to America when I was six years old and I grew up in California.
I would like to learn to read and write in the shortest time possible. If possible, I would like to meet for lessons at least 1-2 hours, 2-3 times a week. During the weekdays, evening is best, after 5PM.

This is actually not for me, but for my boyfriend. He wishes to learn Chinese in all aspects. He is a very motivated and driven student. This will be his first attempt at the language so he is a beginner. I am interested in setting up the classes for him as a gift. He would be able to attend class, as well as some on-line work. I would like his teacher to be geographicall y oriented and a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese. He would be more interested in conversation. He wants to learn because the culture intrigues him and has been wanted to learn how to communicate in Chinese. Perhaps for future career use.

well,i'm a beginn with no knowledge of chinese language as such.But I'm eager to chinese because i'm partially chinese and i sort of have chinese origin and backgroud.As i'am still a student(14 years old, and that means i have go to school)iam ready to dedicate some of spare time in learning and venturing in this new language, so i suggest only 1 hour lessons.lastl y i'm not that particular about the type of teacher i want,but as long the teacher is older and obviously eloquent enough in chinese to teach me.Another thing theteacher be also fluent in English or in creole which is my native language(Seyc hellois).
