To Whom it may concern,

Mandarin: I have lived in Taiwan for one year, and taught myself some speaking and writting. I was using the Pimsleur CDs which uses the Beijing dialect. This is the dialect I wish to learn and am looking for either small classes or a private tutor 2 or 3 times a week in the evenings to improve the bit that I picked up while I was there. I would classify my level as beginner.
French: I attended French-immers ion for the first few years of school and always excelled in French classes. Now I would like to become fluent. I would describe my level as low-intermedi ate (I can understand what's being said when the speaking is slow, and I can usually get my point across when I need someone to understand me. My reading is OK, but writting/gram mar is terrible)

- I am an advanced student of Mandarin. Study to date includes 2 years in immersion programs in Beijing (Princeton-in -Beijing, and Yuyan Xueyuan/BLCU) in 1997-99, and refresher courses of ~2-4 wks in BJ and Shanghai a couple of times since, plus self-study (although not much over the past year).
- I will be re-locating to Asia (HK/Sing/PRC mainland) early next year, and want to improve my Mandarin before then - for both career and personal interest reasons
- At least once a week (wknd). If evening classes exist in Toronto (late evening), I am willing to sign up for 5-7x a week.
- Look for standard Mandarin (beifang qiang) accent. Some knowledge/stu dy/background of business/inte rnational affairs/curre nt events a plus (I am in the banking field and have a degree in Intl. Affairs, focussing on China/Asia)
