I am a complete beginner. I know nothing about the language! Though my mother speaks Mandarin, I was raised speaking only English (and later in life learned French).
I 'd like to learn Mandarin because I would like to be able to travel to China. A friend and I have made tentative plans to go there to work, and learning Mandarin is a great first step.
I'd be prepared to meet a couple of times a week (nights only!) to learn.
I consider myself a fast learner, and I'm willing to put in a lot of effort to learn. So I would prefer a teacher who places more emphasis on this learning aspect, rather than an easy, relaxed, social aspect. Not that I'd want my teacher to be a slavedriver or anything...bu t I think it's important to note that I wouldn't be doing this as a social activity. I'd be here to learn.

I want to learn Mandarin Chinese, because I think it would be a good step to take. If I want to become a travel agents. I would be in the befinners group because I have no experience in speaking chinese. I would be able to dedicate 1 to 2 hours day everyday (doesn't have to be everyday though). I'm not looking really for any qualities in a teacher other then, 1. speaks english well enough to understand, 2. Is reliable.

I have no previous experience with the language. I would like to learn as much as possible to prepare me for an elongated stay in China (2-4 yeas). I am prepared to be tutored twice a week in the evening or on weekends. The lenght of the session doesn't matter to me but 1-2 hours would be ideal.

We are trying to enroll our daughter in a Chinese learning course. She will be 5 in February, and probably this is the time to introduce a new language. She already speaks English and Romanian (our background is Romanian).
