I am a 45 year old New Yorker with english as my only language. I have been married to an Indian woman from South Delhi for many years. We have 3 children and travel at least once a year to India. My in-laws often have extended stays in our home. Nearly everyone in my wife's immediate and extended family speaks english very well.
I also am a lawyer with many Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi,and Bangla speaking clients. I am embarassed that I don't speak Hindi better then I do and I am upset that my children have no fluency in the language.
I have no interest in written Hindi I only want to be able to speak the language in a way that makes me understood and allows me the freedom to speak competently and confidently.
At the moment I can speak pleasantries and follow very basic conversation. My vocabulary is small and I find that I rely on the english spoken by middle class indians, when they speak in hindi, to help me get by. I am interested in possibly having a teacher work with my children ages 14, 4 and 3 as well. Thank you.

I have been studying the Rosetta Stone and Pilsner method for one year. I can converse in Portuguese to a degree but lack interaction on a day to day basis. The reason I am learning Portuguese is for my career advancemant. I plan to dedicate 6-8 hrs a week when time permitts to learn the language.
Th e qualities that I am looking for in my teacher is someone that will cover all the bases to insure my grammar and conversation levels increases with each lessons.
