My first language is Cantonese, but I have forgotten most of it since I speak/read/wr ite English. I would like to relearn, as well as tutoring my 1 and 3 year old in the language. I feel it is important for them to have a dual-language education. Also, I am hoping to recruit a tutor who can translate English into Chinese as I am looking to develop a range of dual-language Children's Storybooks.

I am a beginner attempting to learn Cantonese by listening to CD's. This technique is not progressing as I hoped it would. It seems all I am doing is memorizing short phrases. The reason for learning this language is my fiance is Cantonese and I wish to be able to converse more fluently with her. I need help in all aspects to learn this language. I would devote as much time as needed to accomplish this goal. Please help!

Hello,
Alth ough I only speak english right now it has always been a desire of mine to become bilingual. Having moved to BC from Ontario at first I wanted to learn French because it was the next most widely spoken language I was near. Although I would still love to take up learning the language, I feel that the demographics of Vancouver offer me a much greater chance to practice what I am learning if I persue Cantonese. Also, having a Chinese partner who is bilingual also presents the perfect opportunity to use what I learn outside of classes. My desire to learn Cantonese also stems from an inability to communicate clearly with my partner's family. Being active in politics as I am, speaking Chinese - with China a rising power in the world - would be an advantage I am very interested in acquiring. For all these reasons I am willing to put time and money into learning a new language.
I would be taking on this language as a beginner. I want to learn conversationa l Cantonese first, moving on to grammer and business later on. I work regular fulltime hours Monday to Friday and would be available from 10 am to 2 pm through the week for classes. In person lessons in small to medium groups would facilitate me best - although I am open to other options as well. I would like to start as soon as possible.
