I used to live in Johannesburg, South Africa and have always desired to learn Afrikaans.
I'm an absolute beginner, but highly motivated to achieve colloquial proficiency.
I'm open to learning in-person or via Skype. I hope to find a tutor that is willing to spend at least 3-4 hours per week with me so I can use what I learn as often as possible thus increasing my chances of 'making the language stick'.

I'm learning for my own enjoyment as well as a desire to visit South Africa at some point and maybe make some use of it. i started studying on me free time back in July 2015 and at best i'd rank myself as a beginner who just finished his first semester of Afrikaans (if i had gone to school for it). I know i need Improvement in every aspect and my vocabulary could use work. i'm not sure how much time per lesson i'd be wiling to put in. At times i study for several hours other times for just 15-30 minutes. I have times where i have been very motivated to study and then have slumps where i don't touch Afrikaans for a few days or so, but i feel like having a teacher may remedy this. I like to be thorough. i'm not the smartest guy out there and take a little time getting comfortable with new people. What i lack in smarts though, i make up for with good work ethic and repetition until i have down what it is i want to learn. I suppose the best quality you can have as a teacher is patience and be willing to get to know me as both a student and person. As a side note, i am very passionate about this so meeting someone from South Africa would make me the happiest person alive. Especially if i can learn from them. I may no respond immediately as i am busy with work and finding a second job but will check up on this as often as i can. Baie dankie om te alle wie hierdie lees!
