I am a beginner - I have studied European languages but never learned Hindi. I would like to learn Hindi as I have just moved to India with my husband, who is working in Bangalore. I would like to concentrate first of all on learning the Hindi script and some conversation, so that I can communicate effectively, and then move on to grammar when I am a bit more proficient. My strength in learning languages tends to be in grammar, though, so some basic grammar to put things in context would be good at the beginning. I would like to dedicate no more than one hour per day to lessons in person with the teacher, as I have other things that I do during the day, but am happy and prepared to do homework in the evenings so that I can improve. I would prefer a female teacher but would consider a male teacher, and I would like somebody who is patient and flexible (e.g. if I am away travelling I may need to cancel one or more lessons).
