Although I lived in the Czech Rebulic for over a year, I feel like a beginner. I have not spoken it in ten years. I want to gain speaking proficiency again in hopes of traveling there soon. I am a first-generat ion American. Both of my parents are Slovenian and immigrated to the United States in 1954. Sadly, I never learned to speak Slovenian as a child. I am now 30 years old, married, and have a baby daughter. My wife and I are both interested in learning to speak Slovenian. I know a few words and phrases and have a fair understanding of the pronunciation from listening to my parents, but I am definitely a beginner. My wife and I live in Brooklyn and would like to take lessons weekly or every two weeks at first. We are both very serious about learning and felt that a personal teacher rather than book/tape instruction would provide more incentive.
