I would like to learn the Khmer language as I will be moving to Cambodia in December or 2008. At this time I can speak a few words, perhaps equal to a 2 year old. My wife and I will be moving to Cambodia to help in what ever way we can, she is a nurse and I am a pastor with the Assemblies of God Church.
We desperately need help in all areas of the Khmer language and we are will to dedicate 4-6 hours a day in learning. We are looking for someone who is patient with us as we struggle to learn Khmer.

hello, or soousdey, my name is Dean and i am
am very interested in learning to speak and
read Khmer ,as my girlfriend (who is Cambodian
an d lives in Phnom Penh)speaks little English
but we can still understand each other pretty well.
She is coming to Australia sometime in about August and i would really love to be able to
speak to her in her native tounge .
Also i am fascinated by foreign languages and
can speak German and Fijian quite well.
My Khmer is quite limited but and i would
like my teacher to be Cambodian .
I would be willing to spend any amount of
time to learn Khmer.

My partner and I are looking for anyone that can teach us Khmer in Sydney face-to-face. Both my partner and I have qualification s and the desire to work in Cambodia, and feel a greater advantage would be achieved if we could speak the language. We are both beginners, with no current knowledge of the language. For the moment, we are not interested in learning how to read and write but that may be an option in the future. We are interested in learning the language, not from a tourist's point of view, but from one that will equipt us with life long experience in Cambodia.
Any assistance in finding someone to assist us in doing this would be highly appreciated.

I'm a native Cambodian speaker, as well as French. I was born and raised in France, but my family is Cambodian. I have taken a couple of semesters of Cambodian in college at the University of California, Berkeley, but I have forgotten most of it, and would like to keep up with the language. I tested a 3+(speaking), 3+(listening) , and a 0+(reading) at the Washington Language Center a few months ago. I would like to dedicate a couple of hours to learning Khmer every week. In addition to improving my reading/writi ng skills, I am also looking for enhancing my vocabulary, especially in terms of economics and politics. My current vocabulary is more 'kitchen' Cambodian.
