I have been living in India for the past 2 1/2 years. I am from the U.S. but do business here. As i've interacted, I feel that Hindi isn't necessary (since everyone speaks English), but it is very good to know. I have taken Hindi classes previously near Dehradun, but living in South India the Telugu influence has caused me to not practice much. I would like to learn conversationa l Hindi (not so much writing/readi ng), but in the pure form. I know that Hindi is spoken differently in parts of India (for instance in Hyderabad, there is the Urdu influence). I particularly want to learn in the formal, grammatical way so that when I do business in different parts of India, i won't have an accent. I would like to spent at least 2 hours/week learning. The qualities I am looking for in a teacher are simply: A Hindi mother-tongue influence, the ability to speak the 'pure' form, patience when i continually get confused, and can teach me the grammar as well.
