I am a beginner and would like to advance my language studies. I would like to spend at least a few hours a week with a teacher one on one and subsequent days studying. Qualities I would like to see in a teacher are proficient knowledge of the language (if not native), a way to make learning fun and interesting. Areas I feel I need help in are conversationa l skills and stringing sentences together.

Hi, I am a beginner in the Czech language. I've just married into a Czech family and my husband and I are trying to start a family. I would like to learn Czech to be able to teach and learn with our children as a second language. The areas in which I need help in are grammar and conversation. I'm willing to spend two day/ evenings a week to learn. The qualities I am looking for in a teacher would be patience and understanding . I do not speak any other languages other then English. I've learned quite a few words in Czech from my husband and inlaws but am realizing this language is very difficult. I hope there is someone out there that can help me.

Level: Beginner to early intermediate (I'm about 50% finished with Teach Yourself Mod St. Arabic 2001, ISBN 0-658-01587-7 ; I should be completely finished with it in 1 month)
Why learn? (1) languages are fun for me - degrees in French & Spanish already, (2) advancement to public or private service ( I currently work for US Customs) (3) interest in Islam.
Imp rovement areas: Comprehensive - my goal is to be able to comfortably read newspapers from the Middle East and understand them with 80-90% accuracy by the end of 2005. I would also like to be able to compose letters with similar content as my reading ability as well.
Lang uage lessons: I would like to dedicate a minimum of 2-6 hrs per week (depending on charges) until the end of 2005, then reevaluate.
Teacher: pushes me hard, is not absorbed in grammar 101; I insist on a very fast teaching style during our time together. I can do the little, repetitive things on my own before coming to class. I would like my teacher to be a cheerful, upbeat person so the feeling of the lessons are mutually good. One more thing...I may be working some rotating shifts, so we may need to change lesson dates/times on occassion.

I have studied Vietnamese for 2 years at UCLA, and am halfway through an intermediate textbook. I teach at the the Unviersity of Southern California and want to study Vietnamese religion.
I need to imporve my accent, get more vocabulary and do exercises on grammar. Since I have a textbook, I can do the exercises on my own but I want to go over them with a native speaker and practice conversation.
