My name is David, and I am interested in learning Icelandic. Over the last few years, I have developed an increasing fascination with Iceland, but, having never traveled outside the US, I have never yet been able to experience it. I have decided that the only viable option available to me is to visit the country, and truly find out what it is like. To aid me in the pursuit, I need to learn the local language. I don't want to go on a guided tour of Iceland- I want to get lost there. I want to wander and explore, wherever my feet take me. To do this, I need to know the language, at the very least, and the culture as well, if possible. I need to know what is offensive to an Icelander that would not be to an American, so as to avoid causing trouble. If I do somehow offend, I need to be able to apologize, to reason with the offended party, and try to make amends. And of course, I'll need to ask all the usual questions as well! (Which way to...? How much is...? Where's the bathroom...? etc....) I want to learn all I can!

I am currently a postgraduate student in International Communication and International Relations.
I am very interested in learning Modern Icelandic (Beginners). Though I have no prior experience in this language, I have always been interested in Norse and Scandinavian culture, mythologies and traditions.
I will not be able to start classes immediately, but around perhaps the second week of July, 2014 - aka my mid-year break. I will be far too busy to start learning this language before then, unfortunately .
I would ideally like a tutor for whom Icelandic is either their native tongue or they have a lot of previous experience teaching the language.
Either way they would have far more experience and greater fluency than I currently do!
