Japanese - I consider myself a high beginner or low intermediate. I'm learning Japanese for personal growth and travel also. I need to improve my grammar and listening comprehension . I will dedicate as much time as I can. I need a teacher who is very proficient, preferably a native speaker but also speaks English well.
Kore an - I am a beginner, I only started learning in September of 2008. I am learning Korean because I would like to teach english in Korea some day. Since I'm a beginner I need to work on every aspect of speaking and listening. Reading and writing are not a problem.I will dedicate as much time as I can. I currently only speak English and Bahasa Malaysia and therefore looking to broaden my language horizons. My reasons for wanting to learn to speak Mandarin and French are due to aspirations to travel to those respective countries as well as for career advancement. My proficiency in those languages are currently at level zero, which translates to not knowing how to speak a single word. I only want to learn to speak the language, however reading and writing might be an option once I can converse comfortably in the two. I can currently dedicate my learning at a full time basis and I'm looking for a tutor who has cutting edge and radical teaching methods which would enable me to learn these languages at an exceptional rate.

I'm a Chinese who was brought up speaking English my whole life. I have lived in Malaysia, US and in Singapore, and can speak the bare necessities of Mandarin, perhaps to order food and that is about as far as it goes. My aspirations to learn Mandarin is two fold; because it is a necessity, living in a Mandarin speaking society as a Chinese, and because I need to use it for work.
My proficiency covers the extremely basics of conversationa l Mandarin, unable to read or write except for my name. I would like to be able to at least carry on a basic conversation within 6-8 months, and perhaps be able to use it during meeting with clients on work related matters by the 12th month, though this may be a little too ambitious.
I would expect to spend 2-4 hours each on classes, be it 1 intensive class of 4 hours, or two classes of 2 hours each. My concern is speaking first before writing, so I would not expect out-of-class 'assignments' due to a lack of time.
The ideal teacher would be someone who is young and speaks English beyond average. I would expect her to be able to not just converse and teach in English, but engage in intellectual discussions through teaching to stimulate learning. The classes just be thought-provo king and not mundane, and she should be able to engage and connect with ease, finding alternative ways to encourage learning.
