I'm a PhD student in Literature, but have gone back to work full-time as well. This makes it impossible for me to continue the required langague courses for the degree. I need to either be able to pass a department- administered translation test, or successfully pass 3 more classes in the language. I think this method of learning would prepare me to take the translation test that I need. I have taken one course in German, but have been out of school for a while due to a major illness, so am a little rusty.

I mainly want to learn this because its a beautiful language, but also for my gf. She loves portuguese and so I want to learn it!
I am a beginner. I was very good at French in highschool. My teacher said I had the perfect 'tongue' for French. So I am not sure if I would learn quick at portuguese or not, but I would still love to try!
I would like to learn basic sayings and words, but I would also like to learn conversation as well.
I can dedicate a few hours a week. It really depends on the price the instructor has available. I don't have a ton of funds to put towards this since its more or less just a 'fun' thing to do. But, I would like to learn something!
I am definitely looking for someone patient. If I mess up, I don't want them to get annoyed at me! I am American and I speak English! With a tad French. But, patience would definitely be appreciated!
