I'm learning Finnish because I would one day like to visit Helsinki and possibly live/work in Finland for a year. I believe it would be a great experience for me. I'm a beginner speaker. I've learned a little bit on my own, but I need someone to help me. I enjoy structure when learning. I need improvement in pretty much all areas, especially grammar. I am a language major with interest in general linguistics and I am also an enthusiastic traveller keen on seeing different parts of the world.
But I have no knowledge about Finnish and would like to start from the scratch.
My target is very practical. I am keen on knowing and saying Finnish alphabets; basic greetings and expressions such as hello, thanks, goodbye, my name is..., toilet, yes, no, do you speak English and 10 numbers, all of which will help me get by if I fly to Helsink for a short city break.
I am also interested in understanding Finnish sentence structure and sentence order. I want to find out if Finnish sentence structure belongs to svo and the positions of adverbials and attributives etc.
I am happy to devote 20 hours to the course.
Idea lly I can form a pen pal relationship with a native Finnish speaker who shows interest in learning Mandarin so that we can help and learn from each other.
