Hello, I have been interested in East Asian languages since I was in 6th grade, particulary Japanese. I would like to have some type of career or profession that involves having this skill. I also love asian culture and actually enjoy speaking Japanese and Chinese.
Im pretty much a beginner when it comes to writing but i have pretty good pronunciation and, with words and phrases i do know, i understand the structure of a basic conversation. I feel what i need is a very structured learning system so that i can progress collectively adding to what i know so that i actually learn the language and retain what i learn.I could dedicate MONDAY-FRIDAY ANY TIME for the lessons. I would like for the teacher to have fluent lessons that consistently build upon previous lessons and lessons that touch on relaxed real world conversations , for instance; i wouldnt want my first lesson to be on asking a japanese person how to get to the airport but more relaxed conversation like 'where did u buy that shirt? its cute' or 'do we have class today?'

I am interested in learning Swedish for better communication with my grandchildren . They are 5 and 7. They live in Sweden where visit once a year and they also visit here once a year.
I would say that I'm an advanced beginner. I've been to Sweden several times. I've also completed two beginners' courses with Eva May at the Swedish American Museum. Although I learned a great deal, I really would like to focus on aspects of the language that I can use with the kids. My son, their father, practices medicine in Sweden, is married to a Swede and is a US/Norwegian bi-national. My first encounter with a Scandinavian language then was when I was married to his mother for a number of years.
I am retired now from teaching high school Spanish and ESL. I have a Masters Degree in Linguistics with an ESL concentration . I, therefore, have good flexibility with availability. Since my son's family is visiting in late March/early April, I'd been up for some more intensive involvement in the conversationa l aspects until then.
I should therefore like a teacher who can guide me with a focus on communication over a grammatically perfect speech.
