My intention for studying Chinese is first to study Chinese Pinyin, fundamental grammar and basic Chinese character... I'm already quite ok with the phonetics system but it can be reviewed quite shortly as a part of a first lesson for instance... Then, I would also like to practice oral Chinese, but I really need to do that along with some fundamental grammar to be able to memorize as my mind is quite rational :)
I have already took few courses but it was only conversationa l and I cannot memorize what I learn...
I don't know how much time I want to dedicate to my lessons. It will depend on the rates... :)

I have tried for years to learn via books and cd's. I started with a work friend from China who would teach me little phases, and words. My friend gave me my first book, and soon left the company we worked for, so I don't have that contact anymore, but I'm hooked on the language and culture of China, and would enjoy learning all that I can. I would say I was a beginner, but I believe conversation with a native speaker would be the best way for me to improve. One day I hope to work abroad, or at least be able to spend quality time enjoying the areas in which mandarin is spoken.
