I would like to learn how to read and write chinese and speak Mandarin fluently. I would consider myself a beginner in Mandarin, however I can speak Cantonese fluently. When I was young, I attended Chinese school for 10 years. I know very basic chinese writing skills.
I would like to learn Mandarin so that I can work in China in the next couple of years. My goal is to gain international work experience and my destination is China.
The areas that I feel I need improvement is conversation.
I would like to dedicate 3 hours per week for language lessons. After each lesson, I expect to be given homework for me to practise writing and learning a conversation in Mandarin. I understand it will take practise to learn a new language which I am willing to put time and effort into.

I am interested in learning Chinese because along with my proficiency of English and Korean, Chinese seems to be the language to know because of its growing influence in the world. I do not have much prior knowledge of Chinese at all and I'm looking for lessons once or twice a week. I would like a teacher who can communicate with me well and be patient while being educationally challenging as well.

I'm planning on traveling to China this summer (around May 2010) and need help on learning Mandarin (one of the reasons I'm going there, I'll be taking additional classes once I'm in China).
Both my parents speak Mandarin and I understand most of their conversations , I've also taken beginner classes for 5 years when I was younger (but I never took them seriously, since my parents had forced me to). I'm still at a beginner level, as I do not know how to read or write. As for speaking, I mostly need help on my pronunciation and conversation skills.
I' m willing to start my lessons right away, maybe 2 to 4 hours a week, depending on the cost per hour, and preferably, I'd like to meet the teacher during the week and somewhere downtown Montreal, if that's not possible then we can meet at house.
