My husband and I intend to learn Croatian in order to reside in Croatia. We are travelling to Croatia in January 2017 and would like to commence classes around 23 January in or near Zagreb or in Istria. We would consider other locations, as well, except Dalmatia (too far!). I have a Russian language background and have engaged in self-study of Croatian for about 18 months, but without ability to practice conversationa lly and without extensive audio recordings. My husband has no Slavic language background and has not undertaken any study of Croatian. We both need focused, structured, intensive lessons with focus on grammar, vocabulary, and conversation. We want to dedicate four to six hours per day for lessons, exclusive of homework for four to eight weeks. We are looking for a patient and pleasant instructor with extremely high quality skills in Croatian, preferably a native speaker who also has good English-langu age skills.

I want to learn Croatian because it is my mother's first language and both of my grandparents were born and raised in small Croatian villages. I understand a basic amount, however, I get nervous to speak. I want to be able to have conversations with my family members and be able to track the stories that are commonly told around the holidays. I would be able to dedicate 10 hours a week.

My mother is Croatian and passed away 20+ years ago and have not spoken much at all since even though when starting school in Melbourne I could only speak Croatian and Italian.
