I am a graduate student in international relations. I have taken two years of Chinese (Mandarin) at the undergraduate level but I have not been in formal language training for over 2 1/2 years. My skills, I'm afraid, are at the beginner level again. I want to take lessons in person and/or online in both Chinese and Arabic. I need focused lessons and structure. I want to find a teacher (s) who would be able to work with me over the next 6 months to one year and would help me become proficient in the language. I am a good student and will work diligently to achieve this. I would like to have a set time or times each week to meet with my instructor. I am looking for an instructor who will work with me and guide me so that I can speak, read and write the language. My reasons for learning another language are:language proficiency test for graduate school, career advancement, possible internship and/or teaching English in area of language, as well as a deep and profound love of learning about another culture. We are 3 people, seeking private lessons together.
We all have come basic Arabic, so would describe ourselves as High beginner / Low intermediate level.
Ide ally, we would like to have one-hour private lessons early in the mornings before work (eg 9-10 am) - anything from 2 to 5 lessons per week, according to availability.
We work for not-for-profi t organisations specialising in Iraq.
