I want to learn Farsi as a language requirement for a PhD program in English Literature -- it requires two languages, one is Urdu (my native tongue) and the second, Farsi, which I need to learn well enough to read any text with some level of proficiency. It is better if the potential teacher has an academic background.

I am trying to begin learning Persian. I would like to simply become conversationa l so that I would be able to converse confindently in any environment in the Persian speaking world. I work during the week, so I would like to try and take some classes during the weekend or in the evenings during the week. As a student, I would like my curriculum to be geared mostly toward conversation, but also in reading and writing.

the only things i know how to say in farsi are greetings. therefore, i am most deffinately a beginner. i've chosen to learn farsi because not only do i think it is a beautiful language, but my sister-in-law and her family are fluent and i would like to be able to converse with them. i'm willing to spend as much time as it takes to learn the language. in a teacher, i'm looking for someone who will be patient, who will challenge me, and will be amicable
