You can say Goodbye in Spanish in many different ways. For example:
"Hasta Luego"
"Nos vemos"
"chau"
This are informal expressions.
"Adios" is a very formal expressions than we rarely use in spoken spanish..

I think these are the most apropriate spanish expressions:
"Tongue in cheek" ?- estar de broma (formal) estar de coña, de cachondeo (informal)
"Raining cats and dogs" lloviendo a mares
"Eyes in the back of his head" ojos en la espalda
