Re:Conversational Japanese
Hi, Katie!
We speak in non-formal to only friends, family including
uncle, aunt, grand parents and cousin and people who are same age.

We speak in formal to people who are the first meeting,
older than your age (exept friends and family), and
business situation.

Think easy! I think it's same as English, isn't it?

Re:Re:Learning

Ohaiyo gozaimasu. My name is Betty and I am teaching myself Japanese. It is not as easy as I thought it would be. I am not a gold memeber, but you can contact me through this sight and we might be able to help each other out with translations. One of the problems I have is conjugating verbs. Talk to you all Japanese and English learners soon!

Re:Diffrent greetings

Hello!

> In english there's good day, hello, hi,
> good evening.... the list goes on.

The number of formally or commonly used
greetings is about the same as in western
languages, and they are also more or less
similar in meaning. But in every language
it is possible to invent new greetings for
cultural subgroups or for once-only use,
so there is no maximum number.

When I enter skype under your user name it didn't work. Is hy-tokyo the right skype name. The only person under the name hy-tokyo is someone who lives in Japan.
