Difference between German words
Hello. I am learning German and it is going pretty well so far but I am confused about the difference between several German words.
Schicken und senden bekommen und erhalten einschalten und abstellen setzen und legten offnen und aufmachen wenden und drehen
If somebody could please help me find out which words are correct to use I would really appreciate it!

Re:Difference between German words
Hello Emily, these words are very difficult to describe. I hope you can understand: Schicken= Slang for senden senden= I send you a postcard or an email bekommen= e.g.Ich habe ein Kind bekommen. I have born a baby.I get your letter. erhalten= I get your letter. But not: Ich habe ein Kind erhalten. einschalten= e.g.to turn on the TV abstellen= e.g. to turn out the TV or you say I put the havy paket on the floor. Ich stelle das schwere Paket auf dem Boden ab. setzen= sit down e.g. to a chair legen= lay down e.g. to bed öffnen= to open the door, the bottle..but you can also say "aufmachen" Ich mache die Tür auf. (Umgangssprache/Slang) Ich öffne die Tür. wenden=turn around from one side to another like a paper or a bus turns from one direction to another. drehen= you say this often to flexible things e.g. Please turn the cube to number one.
Best Regards Elke

Re:Difference between German words
Most things are already explained. But I think "drehen, wenden" is not exact.
drehen = rotate at any angle, as often as you like. Ein Karussel dreht sich.
wenden = rotate 180°, turn around once
