Re:Re:how to learn Japanese?
Hi Rinko,
I have difficulty expressing myself. My ideas seem to extend beyond my language skill, and when I attempt sentences, I can get stuck on individual words. I know that it is useful to decompose my ideas into smaller chunks and say smaller sentences, but I feel like my intent is lost. What do you suggest to help forming higher order statements. We have used Genki and an Intermediate Approach to Japanese.
thanks for any input!

Re:Re:Re:how to learn Japanese?
Hi Lester,
I will post my message2. Do you often look out a word in a deictionary? Search many example sentences and find similar usage or sentence structure. Check synonyms and continue searching. Then you'll be able to find a more simple and appropriate expression. Don't give up what you really want to express. Pick out your problems and questions classifying into small categories, and take notes them. Now, you are ready to ask here, again. I've not yet tried, but Kanji conversion tool might be useful, so that you can read the "realia". Your choice of words and phrases will expand.
Cheers! Rinko

Re:Re:Re:how to learn Japanese?
Hi Lester,
This is my message 3. The native speakers' intuition relies on the "coherence", that is, how strong each word/phrase is tied in the sentensce or in the paragraph. An idiomatic expression is a typical example of the "coherence". I'm not fluent in English, and I'm just doing inductive reasoning in my writing. Hope you can meet a patient native speaker on this site.
Cheers! Rinko

Re:Re:Re:how to learn Japanese?
Hi Lester, The sentence order is a little flexible. Please remember these; 1. Put the plain form of Verb/Adjective just before the noun which is modified. 2. These words,"mono, koto, no, tsumori, hoo, hazu..etc" are treated as Noun. So follow the rule above. 3. Review the role and various meanings of Particle. Don't use so many particles in one sentence, especially in spoken language. That seems to be an answer for a policeman. Try finding some extent of fixed/general order of each particle. For instance, "Watashi wa gakkoo ni kinoo tomodachi to ikimashita" is strange. Time words are put in the beginnig of the sentence. 4. The tense is determined by the verb put at the end of the sentence. Don't confuse Form and Style.
Let's post a small question, fully specified question. Cheers! Rinko
