English to Portuguese. Song Lyrics - help a musician!
Ola, I am at the beginning of learning Portuguese but trying to write a song with some Portuguese lyrics.
Is the following correct - for 'where is my light'?
Onde está a minha luz
I'm a little confused also about saying a phrase such as My heart is empty - O meu coracão está vazio (?) Does 'my' stay masculine because the word for heart is masculine or do a change it to 'a minha' because I'm female and referring to my heart?
Sorry if that's confusing! I'd be very grateful for some help. I'm starting to grasp the basics and I can pronounce but I want to make sure what I sing is correct!
Obrigada
Leah

Re:English to Portuguese. Song Lyrics - help a musician!
Hi, Leah
I'm Brazilian, and I'll try to help you.
Your sentence "onde está a minha luz" is correct, and you can also say "onde está minha luz" without the article, if it sounds better for your song.
The same can be done for "O meu coração está vazio." You can say also "Meu coração está vazio".
About possessives, they ALWAYS fit to the owned thing, never to the owner. So:
Meu coração teu carro seu cabelo nosso trabalho etc. (male)
minha casa tua vida sua boneca nossa vontade (female)
Hope I've helped :)

Olá Obrigada!
Thankyou very much! That's a great help. Missing the article is good for my song. Thankyou for explaining the gender issue. I understand more now
Best Wishes Leah

it´s correct to say "o meu coração está vazio" it´s no matter if you´re a male or female and the noun that is a "male noun" .
