Description |
I've been thinking about learning Irish Gaelic for several years now. First of all, I have a real taste for Irish culture in general. I'm an amateur player of some irish instruments such as the harp, the fiddle, a little bit of Bodhran and whistle. I'm a professional illustrator and over the years I've specialised in the Celts. I've published several graphic novels, including two about the old celtic symbols called « Oghams » (the Book of Ballymote), and one on Celtic tales and legends, based on the Heroes of Ulster, such as the famous Cuchullain. We've recently set up a music group with some friends os mine. The core repertoire is in various Celtic languages (Breton from Little Britain, Welsh, Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic). As far as I'm concerned, it's the Irish that attracts me the most. But it seems very difficult to find learning materials. I've tried on my own to get started, with an online programm but as there's no explanation of any kind, I struggle to understand how the language is structured. It is especially difficult to understand phonetic mutations at the beginning of the words by mere deduction. So I would like to get some support and training from a real irish teacher to understand the grammar basics.
My spoken English is relatively average but my understanding is good, I think. This would make it possible to use English as an intermediate language for a teacher who does not speak French. As I'm an adult, the mother of a teenage daughter, and still working, I might not be able to do intensive learning, but I can provide regular work. My aim would be: - as a priority, to be able to read with the right pronunciation , so as to be able to pronounce correctly the songs that we undertake in our music group - to understand enough to be able to read stories from Irish heritage. I'd like to continue writing books about Celtic legends, not just the ones that have already been translated in my mother langage. - get by with a minimum of conversation, in the country, or when I meet Irish people at festivals, which is regularly the case.
If my profile seems to suit you, I'd be delighted to embark on this learning journey with you.
Since rly yours, Krystal Camprubi

Description |
I am hoping to learn Irish Gaelic because I am about to move to Limerick, Ireland. When I am there, I not only hope to teach (Secondary level English and Art), but I hope to embrace the community by having something extra to offer.
I am a complete novice. I have never spoken a work of Gaelic, either Scottish or Irish. I imagine I would need annunciation and conversation first and foremost, but grammar is important to me too! I will be moving to Limerick in August, so I would end my sessions then, and most likely find someone locally--this would mean 2-3 months of lessons.
I would like a teacher with patience and a sense of humour, otherwise the process won't be fun.

Description |
Hello. My name is Guy and I have recently been extremely interested in the Irish culture and the language particularly interested me. It is a bit different from other languages and I find it very interesting. I am almost a complete beginner apart from a few words here and there. I want to improve my conversation skills most of all, but would like to work on a bit of everything. I am willing to dedicate a few hours a day to learn Irish Gaelic. I would like my teacher to hopefully be a native, if not it's fine. An I would like the lessons to be tailored more for conversations .
Yours Sincerely, G uy
