Re:Please Translate!
Hello Gokou,

I only know the translation of 'Death' which I believe is 'Shinde'. I will try to find out the rest for you later because I too am an English person facinated by Japanese culture...in fact, I have a language partner called Junichi Suzuki and he can help you with the translations! You should have them in a couple of days for your comic book!

Talk to you later!

Sinead

P.S You call yourself Gokou because of the guy out of Dragon Ball Z, right? That's a really cool cartoon! What else do you like?

Furin ya.....
Hey you guys!

I was walking home one day and I saw a friend of mine spraying something on a wall. He said he saw it in a book and that it was a 'hiku', except he didn't know what it meant. He asked me and I don't know either. So it goes like this I think:

Furin ya
Koenaki
Kaze wa
Uta wa
Seru

It's not important but I don't want japanese people to walk past it and get mad incase it's rude!

It depends on what you are counting.
The plain, originally Chinese numeral is
"hachi".

You can also use the domestic
"yattsu" ("ya" plus generic ending "tsu"),
if you do not specify the type of
countables.

If you specify the type of countables,
use "hachi" plus the right suffix for
the countable. For example "hachidai"
for vehicles and machines, "hachinin"
for people, and so on.

Native Japanese could give you more
detailed explanation about the
applicability of "yattsu". To me
Japanese is a foreign language.

There are other East Asian languages
who have the same kind of complexity with
the numerals.

Help me!
While reading a cartoon, I came across a phrase I can' t understand.
A conversation takes place between a docter and a black young guy.
" Recently I' ve been wrestling with my identity."
" Does your being black have anything to do with?"
" Jesus-not that as well."
Could you explain the last phrase to me?

Re:Double consonants
Hello cweb255! arigatou means thank you, it is made of the 5 hiraganas a-ri-ga-to-u. You have to pronounce each one separately. Something like this, ah-ree-gah-toh-oo, but pronounce it rapidly.
kon nichi wa means good day, it is made of the 2 kanjis "kon" & "nichi", and the hiragana (ha) but it is used as a particle here and pronounced "wa". Double vowels are pronouced separately. For example, aoi means blue is pronounced ah-o-ee. Double consonants is a bit complex. If you know the hiragana tsu(tu), to make a consonant sound longer, just add a small tsu before the consonant that you want to elongate. For example, nakatta, that is na-ka-(small tsu)-ta. kon nichi wa isn't really a double consonant because they are separate kanjis. ko-n and ni-chi. Ok, I hope that helped, Bye bye.
